Valentines with Veterans What: making valentines with veterans for veterans! This meeting will include a business meeting and initiation/welcome ceremony for new members When: Saturday, February 6th from 11am - 1pm Where: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), 124 S Tuttle Ave, Sarasota, zip 34237 Refreshments: will be provided at the hall; bring a dish or drink to share if you wish What to Bring: any card crafting supplies to share - construction paper, scissors, glue, colored pencils, crayons, markers, stickers, stencils, etc. Why: to we honor yesterday’s veterans (our patriot ancestors) by connecting with today’s veterans and spreading some cheer for the holiday and appreciation for their service


Making Memories at Mixon’s What: one hour family-friendly tram tour of beautiful citrus groves and wildlife refuge; children’s play area available after When: Saturday, January 29th; tram tour begins at 11am Where: Mixon Fruit Farms, 2525 27th St E, Bradenton, FL 34208 Food: we will provide some ice cream refreshments for the children (members) on-site; a cafe has sandwiches/salads/beverages available for purchase or you can bring your own food All the details: www.mixon.com Why: to learn more about Florida’s natural history and our local environment; it was here even before our patriot ancestors!


 National Day of Service Beach Cleanup: beach cleanup in association with the Keep America Beautiful Campaign in advance of our National Day of Service observed on April 5th

When: Sunday, March 6th or 13th (TBD) from 8am to 10am

Where: Siesta Beach, 948 Beach Rd, zip 34242

What to Wear: patriotic colors - red, white, and blue! Wear comfortable clothes and shoes to walk on the sand and surf

What to Bring: disposable gloves, trash bags, and trash pickers

Parking: free and plentiful in the on-site lots in early morning

How: meet at the playground on the south end of the parking lot

Why: let’s keep America’s #1 beach clean!
Manatee Village Historical ParkWhat: exploring a historical reproduction of life in Manatee County in the mid to late 1800s with a picture scavenger and other onsite activities

When: Saturday, April 9th at 11am 

Where: Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Ave E, Bradenton, zip 34208

Check out this great video 2018 Youth Genealogy Event presented by The ChiChi-Okobee Society Children of the American Revolution on Martin Luther King Day of Service, January 15, 2018. This event showed children and adults the power of learning about their family histories through research and networking. Held at the lovely Children's Garden in Sarasota, FL.  

2017 MLK Day of Service

On Monday, January 16, 2017 the ChiChi-Okobee Society N.S.C.A.R. hosted a Youth Genealogy Program as a service initiative to the community for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. This program was held at The Children's Garden and Art Center and made possible by a MLK Day of Service grant through SCF College.
